At BGBC, we often say: act local, think global.
Being part of the World Green Building Council’s Europe Regional Network (ERN) allows us to put this into practice.
Through this unique network of Green Building Councils across Europe, we bring European knowledge, best practices and policy insights to Belgium, while ensuring that Belgian experience and market realities help shape the European conversation. Our mission is not only to accelerate the transition of the Belgian built environment, but also to position Belgium at the heart of international knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Whether it's sustainable finance, building renovation, climate resilience or future EU regulations, we are stronger when we work together.
The European Regional Network is a powerful and diverse community of over 20 national Green Building Councils, six regional partners, and close to 5,000 European members.
This broad geographical reach gives the ERN a unique strength as well as a significant responsibility to translate global ambition into targeted local action across the network and beyond.
With major regulatory shifts and growing industry momentum around net zero and circular construction, the ERN offers a unique platform to help shape solutions and influence the future of the built environment.
Via connection, collaboration and innovation, the ERN aims to exert powerful influence across the built environment and help the European Union (EU) to reach its 2050 climate targets by:

To achieve these goals, the ERN combines their reach and connections within the industry, with diverse expertise and national case studies to craft one single voice at a European level.
The network has become a leading voice on sustainable buildings, helping to drive a shift in EU policy which has now embraced a whole life carbon (WLC) approach, as well as introducing targets for European building renovation.
In addition to powerful policy influence, the ERN supports the delivery of several pioneering EU and philanthropic funded projects, helping to deliver systemic change at a European level, and contributing towards WorldGBC’s mission to achieve resilient and decarbonised buildings for a healthy planet and a better future for all.
