Last month, we shared how the Asset Valuation Task Force was preparing to validate the first version of its ESG Asset Valuation Methodology.

Since then, an important milestone has been reached.

During the validation workshop, task force members reviewed the updated methodology, challenged the proposed criteria and their influence on key valuation drivers, and worked towards a shared understanding of how sustainability factors can be reflected in real estate valuation practice.

With that step completed, the methodology has now moved into its testing phase.

Market participants from within our membership are now applying the framework to real office assets, putting the criteria and proposed valuation impacts into practice and providing feedback on what works, what needs refinement, and how the methodology performs in real-world valuation contexts.

This is an important next step: moving from developing and validating a common framework to learning from its application in practice.

The insights from this testing phase will feed into the next iteration of the methodology and help the task force work towards its ambition: a common Belgian approach that makes the relationship between sustainability and asset value more consistent, transparent and meaningful for the market.

A sincere thank you to all task force members for their continued engagement, expertise and willingness to challenge assumptions throughout this collaborative process.

Next step: testing, learning and refining.
