This week, the Belgian Green Building Council had the opportunity to take part in the Colloque Immobilier at the Cercle de Wallonie: “Les défis du territoire face aux turbulences géopolitiques et économiques”.
Among many important discussions, we addressed the urgent need—and the immense opportunity—of rehabilitating polluted industrial sites in Wallonia. Reviving these forgotten lands can become a powerful driver for sustainable urban development, especially in cities like Charleroi and Liège.
We strongly believe that transforming contaminated sites into resilient, low-carbon urban spaces must be part of the real estate sector’s role in the transition. Giving new life to what was once lost—this is a mission we wholeheartedly support at BGBC.
We warmly thank the organizers for bringing together such a rich and relevant exchange. It was a pleasure to hear insights from speakers like Thomas Dermine, Mayor of Charleroi, and to see some of our members, including Deplasse, in the room.
Let’s keep building bridges between past and future, economy and ecology !
