Last week, we had the opportunity to visit the Green Building Council España (GBCE) in Madrid, a mature and mission-driven organisation that’s accelerating the sustainable transformation of the built environment.
From the development of their own VERDE certification framework, to their leading role in the EUTaxonomy digital portal, GBCe exemplifies how ambition and pragmatism can go hand in hand.
Key learnings that inspired us:
✅ A clear, structured certification system, backed by a recognised accreditation
✅ An internally developed Taxonomy tool, the first of its kind in Europe
✅ Active involvement in EU-funded programs like INDICATE, focused on harmonising LCA methodologies
✅ A governance model that bridges national and regional action, which critical in a complex sector like construction
