On May 12, our Managing Director participated — together with WorldGBC and CPEA — in discussions on the implementation of the EPBD and the decarbonisation of Europe’s building stock.
A key message from Rosalinde van der Vlies, Director of DG Energy (European Commission): the focus is now on implementation and delivering impact on the ground — not on changing the rules again.
The EPBD was designed as a flexible framework, allowing Member States to adapt the transition to their own context while keeping a common direction towards decarbonisation.
The discussions also highlighted the strong alignment with the new #AccelerateEU initiative, built around three priorities:
• Security
• Sustainability
• Self-reliance
And five key actions:
• Closer coordination between Member States
• Protecting consumers and businesses
• Scaling up clean energy
• Strengthening energy systems
• Boosting investments
One important takeaway for the building sector: energy efficiency and renovation are at the heart of all these priorities.
The challenge ahead is now clear: turning ambition into implementation at scale.
