The EU Taxonomy Guidance for Building in Belgium is rooted in real-world application as it is developed in close collaboration with BGBC’s members, that have hands on experience on EU Taxonomy, applicable Belgian best practices, regulations and legislation. The members of the EU Taxonomy Committee have been actively envolved in the creation of this guidance, sharing their knowledge and expertise. BGBC is the owner of the Belgian guidance.

The appointment of the EU Taxonomy Committee further strengthens the robustness and continuity of this Belgian guidance. The Committee reviews and implements feedback from users, keeps the guidance up to date as regulations and market expectations evolve, and ensures coherence with guidances development in other European countries through BGBC’s participation in the Climate Positive Europe Alliance (CPEA).

Sven Dumortier

Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer | Banimmo

Sven Dumortier oversees technology and sustainability strategy at Banimmo. In practice, he sees the EU Taxonomy as a valuable framework for determining whether real estate activities can be considered genuinely sustainable.

While tools such as the EU Taxonomy Compass provide useful guidance, ambiguities can still lead to differing interpretations between project owners, consultants and auditors. Initiatives such as the BGBC clarification document aim to reduce these uncertainties by providing clearer guidance, enabling stakeholders to focus on the shared objective of delivering truly sustainable real estate.
